BBC News interview
September 2022
In September 2022, I was packing to move to university when my ranger unit and I were invited to the Girlguiding North East England office to take part in a session filmed by the BBC, where they wanted to know what we did and how we thought about the Queen. On the day of filming, we met up with another ranger unit and did activities such as making origami crowns, rolling and tying neckers, and looking at old badges and uniforms.
We started by making our promise using the queen’s name for the last time:
”I promise that I will do my best,
to be true to myself and develop my beliefs,
to serve the Queen and my community,
to help other people and to keep
the Guide Law.”
We talked about who the queen was and what she meant to guiding before being assigned a table and working on the activity set there.
While we were doing our activity, the reporter and videographer moved around, asking us questions about what we were doing and how we felt about the Queen being a member of the Girl Guides. It was an enjoyable event and a lovely way to connect with the queen one last time.
