My Time At WGHS

From 2015-2022, I attended Wakefield Girls High School, where I started as a shy, childish 11-year-old. I grew throughout my time there, leaving at 18 feeling confident and ready for adulthood, ready to join the world. These experiences taught me resilience and self-confidence, which can inspire others facing similar challenges. However, I never lost my ability to be silly and imaginative when I want to be.

My favourite subjects were always the more scientific subjects like maths and computer science, whereas English was never my strong suit. I got to take part in subjects like Classical Civilisations and Latin with a GCSE in the language. Outside the classroom, I enjoyed music, playing the violin, and earning my ABRSM grades 1-3, although by the time I left school, I was grade 5 standard. I played in several school groups, like intermediate strings and session orchestra, which I really enjoyed.

Many of my favourite memories from school are being part of the wider school community, helping in the library and with the school's charity efforts for many years, and, in sixth form, organising and running the school's LGBT club, Iris (the Greek god of Rainbows). Sharing these experiences can encourage others to feel connected and motivated to participate. I was incredibly lucky to have a very close group of friends through school, sharing adventures abroad and during the school day.

Like most people, I faced challenges along the way, including struggling in some subjects, which led me to seek help from the learning support department and its staff, whom I will never forget. Overcoming these difficulties helped me realise my passion for problem-solving and technology, which influenced my decision to study computer science, driven by a love of computers and a desire to understand the changing world around us. This journey of perseverance shaped my academic and personal growth.

I absolutely loved my time at WGHS and have made so many memories and learned so many lessons from every single person I met.
